    For the disgruntled parents - you choose to have kids and they did not choose to be born. They don’t owe you anything. Plan for your own care and don’t rely on others for them to carry your burden in old age.

    Bone density (in US) I ended up paying out of pocket (Thanks to BLUE CROSS of North Carolina, if you are insured with this scammy company I'm sorry) I had previously had one that was covered, but this time around they decided they didn't like how my provider coded my dx for the procedure. 6 months later, still appealing. So, even though my provider wants me to have a colonoscopy at 5 years due to a polyp found in last one, I told her I will NOT be doing this before 10 years, because I cannot afford to pay for a colonoscopy if Insurance decides not to pay for it. The joys of living in the US, we don't want the government coming between us and our doctor, LOL. But the insurance companies can practice medicine without a license.

    Eat in moderation, avoid garbage takeaways, take exercise, avoid "fad" diets, lay off the starchy sweet stuff. And above all stay away from quacks and charlatans. Your doctor is a trained professional, long years of rigorous training, and your well being is their priority. Oh, and google is not a trained physician btw.

    • @patriciasalem3606
      @patriciasalem3606 19 годин тому

      Unfortunately, I have found that patient well being is not the priority of many doctors in the US. Their primary concern is meeting metrics dictated by corporate healthcare and insurance companies to increase shareholder or company wealth. I worked in clinical healthcare, and I understand the time constraints and pressures. But many are ignoring their oaths. I have found it impossible to get some screenings done for my individual needs because the physician is so focused on checking boxes for the PPO. They don't want to address the symptoms I'm having now and instead insist on screenings for other conditions -- valid screenings, but it's poor triage. Some are condescending towards women and quick to write off problems to "you're not as young as you used to be" or "it's probably a little depression." Some are simply bad doctors. You know the old joke: "What do you call the guy who graduated last in his class in medical school? Doctor."

      @@patriciasalem3606 Well, I cannot give Any opinión on the U.S. I am in Europe. Personally Any doctors I have encountered were excellent, straight Up and good diagnósticians. Then again I am fortunate not to have to see the doctor too often. L. That said, over here the U.S. has an amazing reputation in the medical sector and research.

    I would encourage your listeners to do a fair amount of research about their specific maladies to determine the right questions to ask, the right tests/bloodwork to ask for. I don’t know about you, Margaret, but I don’t have a lot of faith in my doctor. He is often ready to offer a test or diagnosis or prescription, but rarely if ever does he question my diet or anything else that might point to a reason I could be having an issue. I am in good shape and consistent with good daily nutrition and exercise. I’m 70 and have yet to have surgery. I’ve had eight colonoscopies all normal, but I have a family history so those started at the age of 38. My point is, well, I have two. If your doctor suggests a test, ask what happens next. Say you’re positive for some such thing, ask how you will cope going forward? Sometimes the expected treatment is not desirable. And your doctor doesn’t want to talk about the ifs, I know. They don’t have the time. Just like they don’t discuss the side effects of a medication. Insist. Side effects from the drug you might take for bone loss could cause you more trouble than it’s worth. I’m just saying, look into the alternatives. You have to be your own best advocate. I have found more success visiting a PT and an acupuncturist who can search for the root of the cause and not just treat the symptoms. If you can afford it, see a functional doctor who can look at you holistically. Thanks for this discussion. ❤️

    I get check ups twice a year for hypertension, hypothyroidism and hypercholesterolemia. A complete blood work up once a year. (checks blood sugar, kidney functions, liver functions, cholesterol panel, thyroid function) Lucky me gets to have a colonoscopy in July (again). It's such a joy. The prep is the worst, the procedure is nothing. My doctor ( or more likely insurance company) doesn't recommend bone density until over 65, unless you have some type of problem I get yearly mammogram and am on a dental plan to get cleanings for periodontal disease issues every 3 months. Staying on track to stay as healthy as I can.

    The best ways to beat blood sugar problems is a carnivore diet, avoiding all processed foods. Sugar, starch, and alcohol and anything with high fructose corn syrup are everyone’s enemy when it comes to health.

    Thank you so much for these helpful reminders, Margaret. So important to stay on top of all of these screenings. Here in the US, medicare begins at age 65 and most of these tests are covered by that insurance. You provide such a valuable service for us. Thank you for your kind efforts.

    I am an identical twin. We always had the same memories on shared experiences. The difference was in how the memories were experienced. It was similar looking at a 3 dimensional object from two different sides. We would have a conversation that began, "do you remember...", and usually the answer was "yes, and this happened". The other twin says, "yes, I remember that too, and this also happened" adding to the memory as seen from a different angle. She died in her 50’s sadly. I so much miss her and those conversations.
